Solitude

Waiting in the midst
Of all the darkness
A man with a lantern
Seemed shaken

In all his years of wandering
Alone in his own
Misery
He forgets the many
Who wished to help
Him shoulder his burden

Turning now in the darkness
Another light beckons him to follow
No voice to speak
But a small gesture

Curiously he accompanies the light
Though his own has grown dim
And he worries he will need to refuel
His own lantern

Nearing a small door
He noticed it was the same
Which had plagued him
Since he was born

Shaking his head in dismay
He nearly escapes
But is held fast
By a hand
Much more gentle than his own

"Come with me to a brighter future."
The new face
Smiled at him
And he swallowed uncertainty
To lead him to a new tomorrow
